Chapter 1: Leaving
A violent break. Not a planned journey, let alone a choice: the young people who cross Africa, then the desert and finally Libya, had to leave everything behind in a matter of minutes, with no possibility of returning. The overwhelming majority were kidnapped, thrown into trucks and taken to torture camps. Bailo was leading a peaceful life in Guinea. He had only two hours to flee. He had participated in an anti-government demonstration.

LEAVE OR DIE
Text Bailo, music Mathias Duplessy
I was 18 years old in Guinea
Yes, my life was mapped out
My school, my family, my job
I was happy thereOh my Guinea
No justice in GuineaNo security
I go down to the streets to demonstrate
They beat me
My Guinea broke me
Leave or die
These were my only options
As my father used to say:
My son, you have no choice
Leave or die
I no longer have a place
Where I feel at peace
Where I feel at home
Leave or die
These were my only options
As my father used to say:
My son, you have no choice
Leave or die
I no longer have a place
Where I feel at peace
Where I feel at home
